Need Some Good Wire Cutters

Gerber has spring-loaded ones for $114 but that seems a bit much. Anyone have any experience with Felco, namely the C7 and Commando types? Not sure the Commando is the way to go because how often does one run into barbed wire in an urban or suburban environment? Chain link fences on the other hand are quite common.

Cutting pliers will tackle just about any job, fit in your kit, and cheap.

Go to a farm store and buy some Fence wire cutters. Pretty cheap, and can handle high tensile steel.

Just for a grin..

In Texas we have a law that is still on the books.

That you could be hanged. for having wire cutters on you.

Goes back to the old barbed wire wars..

Just for a grin and thought.

Re: Need Some Good Wire Cutters

Remember that most 'wire cutters' for sale in dept stores aren't made for steel wire, but for copper. Trying them on steel will chip the cutter and render it useless. Cutters for steel have a more obtuse profile (less pointy). Looking at farm tools will net you a pair more suited to your needs. Alternately, my toolbox sports a 12" bolt cutter for such needs. It'll slice through 12ga mild steel wire without hesitation. Doesn't leave a very clean end, tho. And definitely isn't the preferred tool for stranded cable, but it will get the job done.

Got Kobalt fencing pliers at Lowe's for $13...then went out in my neighborhood at dawn and "tested" them out. They do work. Still might pick up a high-end pair of barbed wire cutters though.

Own a piece of history... a genuine WWII Wire Cutter used by British Tommies. A reliable tool to snip barbed wire on the front lines, on rescue missions and more.
